Default Running Problem w/video

1988 760 GLE

So I still have my old car around. I just can't get rid of it. I want to fix it and keep it. So I had been having a small problem for about a year and half, which I talk about in this thread. Anyway, one day last November while driving it around in town, it dies on me. I bring it home and it fires up. I haven't really messed with it since, but here's what happens when I start it now.

Fuel pump(s)? I don't know where to start. I almost just want to start buying things to replace but I don't want to spend money like that. I may have to though..

ewwwww A v-6!!!!!!!

Sorry!!!

Is there anyplace besides breaking the fuel line loose to see if there is fuel at the motor?
Did you check for spark?

I did not see the tach jumping when cranking so it may be an ignition issue like a speed sensor or something like that.

Also do you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key on?

No, I haven't recently checked for spark actually. Good tip...

Speed sensor rly?

And yes, I do hear the fuel pump. You can actually kind of hear it in the video after each time I crank it, it hums for a second afterwards.

I forget exactly if there is a flywheel sensor or a pick up in the Dist on the V-6.
If you have no spark look for those things.

If you hear the pump then most likely you have fuel. You are missing either spark or something like that. I also think that is a CIA injection from what I could see in the Vid.
Which makes it even harder to work on.

CIA Injection? Does Jetronic mean anything? The manual mentions that, if I remember correctly. I'll try to tinker around with it on my days off.

Jetronic should be electronic fuel injection. CIA is the constant injection.

Best way to see which type you have is to find the injectors. If they have an electrical plug then it is the newer. If no plugs(electrical) then you have the old CI injection.

They have plugs. Plus the computer says "Jetronic" on it. So I guess it is electronic.

Hello. I went out and started it again tonight. This time I kept the RPM 1500-2000. Ran a tad big longer, but died within a minute and half. I was looking at all of the wires in the engine bay and came across something coming out of the top of the tranny, right behind the engine. It has a wire coming to a connector that connects into the bundle of wires that the injectors are in. Is this the crank position sensor? Reason I'm bringing this up is because the insulation around that wire is just about all gone, although it isn't touching anything.

Just curious.

Yes that sounds like the speed sensor I would replace that and see if that fixes it.
I would bet it would.
