Default service light

I heard different ways to erase the service light.
1. take to the dealer
2. get the code and plug in to the car
3. push a button near the gauge

I have 96 960
Is there a button that I can push to erase the service light for my vehicle?

Unfortunately, no! I have the same problem with my 850 as it is a '96 model.

I havea 95' 960. There is a little black plug on the instrument panel. I just have to remove it and poke the button with a pen or the end of a paperclip. I found this out by calling the Volvo service department. If this doesn't work on your model, you might try calling a Volvo service dept. and asking them for instructions. They should give them to you. (I can't remember, but I think you have to turn the ignition to run to do this.)

No dispute about that, but Volvo made many changes to the '96 models. One of the most important, and frustrating, was replacing OBD1 diagnostic units with OBD11. It is no longer possible to read fault codes without a scanner and the sameapplies to the service light reset.

In defence of Volvo, not something I do very often, the change to OBD11 was forced on all manufacturers. The only people who gain are, of course, the dealers.

I have a '96 960. Just remove the rubber plug located on the instrument cluster between the clock and speedo. Use thin pen or whatever you have that fits and press the button. A Volvo dealer mechanic did it for me.
