Question Volvo 760 Help

1990 Turbo Volvo 760 sell ASAP

I'll be looking at this 760 this Saturday, has 174k on it with the turbo 4, AC and most stuff works. Only faults are:

Sunroof doesnt work, but doesnt leak

Cruise Control and Heated Seats dont work

Smokes for 30 seconds when cold, oil dipstick stays the same though after a long drive, doesn't smell of burning oil. Had several 240s and an 850 but never a 700, are any of these issues serious?

Interesting! What's with all the extra parts?
Smoke is bad but he has another turbo...
Does the A/C work?
Does it need shocks in the back? Those Nivomats are $600 per...
How's the headliner?

Smoke is probably a turbo issue...
As with all older cars: they need maintenance and care and if you like to wrench and can do it, they are OK. If you go to a shop and say "fix it", at $100+ an hour, the bill quickly grows over what the car is and ever will be worth and then it makes no sense. Like this turbo issue: I could fix it for $100 myself, or pay a $1,000 to a shop... It all depends on how much one wants to get involved but these old Volvos do need care...

All depends on the color of the smoke really, owner hasnt told me yet

The owner is trying something really strange though, I am supposed to see and possibly buy the car Saturday, but he might not have the title until Monday. He had the title transferred into a local title after buying the car from out of state.

Bottom line is the car might have bigger issues, and I dont put down cash without a title.

Looks like a deal to me! Turbos are easy fixes and he's giving you $1,500 in parts.... Just tell him you'll pay when you see the Title.

Seems like the smokes white, condensation perhaps? I know the AC works but should Iever have to service it, where is the low pressure port? On the compressor or did these cars get those dryer tube bits?

Search on Youtube for RobertDIY. He is one of resident experts and has a video on how to work on the A/C. The low pressure port is easy to see - black cap to the right of the dryer.

If theres a dryer thats good, my '92 240 had one and charging was easy. My '90 240 however, that required one to be underneath. I should mention that I've never owned a turbo before, I know they prefer premium and need 5 mins of idle after a hard drive.

Volvos turbo cars are durable. You just don't want a turbo car (any brand) to cool off from being red hot when it's not moving air through it. As long as you cruise easily for a bit after winding it up, you should be fine.

Hows the interior in these when it comes to plastic quality? Is it a step up or step down compared to a 240?

I'm shopping this and a Camry wagon beleive it or not, but do I question Toyota reliability when cheap oil seals and broken automatics are "normal". Nevermind the rust.

The Volvo, smoke aside, seems like it'd be the more reliable car. Not as good on gas but better hardware (brakes, body, etc).

Anyone hear ever tried on a Camcord?
