Default Volvo wheels

I recently bought a set of aluminum Volvo wheels to mount winter tires on. I have a 96 960 wagon, not sure what the new wheels came from, but they were the right size. They came with a set of lug studs to mount them. My 960 has lug bolts that come off the brake hub. When I went to get them mounted at a respectable tire shop, the guy said he did not want to mount them because my steel lug nuts would chew into the aluminum mounting holes on the new wheels. I left them off for the time being, but would really like to use them. Is there any way to mount these wheels?

Thanks for any input !

Dan

I don't see any problem here, unless the rims don't clear the brakes

get a torque wrench an a 19mm socket (iirc they're 19mm, but I might be wrong for your car. On my 240 they're 19mm), put wheels on, put on lug nuts in a star pattern, torque to spec (on my 240 it's 75ft/lb, should be similar, but check your owner's manual or repair book if you have one).

if the wheels don't clear the brakes, get some spacers, then install the wheels.

For some reason I do not understand the question or problem. If you have wheels that have 5 holes to fit over the bolts that are a part of the car, why do you need the studs? I would toss them and just mount the wheels as the ones that were on.

Also, why are you getting snow tires put on now??? It's June... Also, why don't you get the same wheels that come on your 960 and have snow tires put on them??? That way you have no issues.

My 960 has nuts, my S70 & 850 have studs. I have used the 960 wheels on my 850 but simply used the 850 mounting studs to do so.

Not sure if I'm still confused or not but maybe this helped???
