Help!!! Please!!!! Car is stuck in a parking lot!!!!

The car is in park and the ignition key won't go in the key slot. Tried turnung the wheel, no luck. It just will not go in the slot.

Try wiggling the shifter a little bit.If not the how far does the key go in?

 

wiggle the wheel back and forth... happens to me somtimes. or make sure you have the correct key.

 

I do not think the problem is with the steering wheel being locked. Sounds like there is a jam of some sort in the key compartment.

 

The key doesn't go in at all. Tried to shake the wheel, turned the wheel etc. Would not lock the steering. Also the shifter will not move. the button cannot be pressed even with my foot on the brake.

 

Maybe something (dirt, dust, or other substance) got into the compartment where you slide the key into. Check with the pick or other sharp object to be sure that nothing is blocking the key's entry.

 

Is there a chance that the button on the shifter didn't come back out all the way.There is a cable that goes from the shifter to the ignition switch.Sometimes if there is a problem with the shifter or the cable it won't allow the key to go in.

 

This morning I pounded on the tumbler with a wrench. Multiple times. Finally got the key to go in. Lubed up with WD40. Hope this fixes it!

 

I could have fixed it.

When you go through the day and drive it make sure the button you push to shift through the gears return after you push it to shift from park and back into park.
