1993 volvo 850glt stalled during operation and will not start up again. the check engine light came on momentarily and then the rest of the caution advisary board light up and the car died. parked and it would not restart but does crank. crank doesn't sound right. there is electrical power.

 

You lost fuel, spark or the timing belt.

Start by checking these items. If its been a long time since the timing belt was changed I would start there. Pull the cover and at least get a visual of the condition. Turn the engine over to visually inspect the teeth on the belt.

Get a fuel pressure gauge and attach it to the schrader(sp) valve to see what the fuel pressure is.

Pull the spark plug wire from the distributor and put it close to ground then crank to see if there is spark.

Once we know where or what the problem is then we can help get you back on the road...if you dont figure it out on your own first.

 

thanks. i was thinking of the timing belt or something electical. i will check these items. just happened last night.

 

Because you said it sounded funny I'd check that timing belt to see if it's broken. If not and you find you have spark I'd pull the black plastic cover and check the belts timing marks to see if maybe it jumped out of place if it's still turning.

When was your last belt change ??

 

check for codes if you can.
