Default 1994 850 ABS Fault 411

My ABS light came on and the fault code returned was 411, which indicates "inlet valve for LH front brake, open circuit or short circuit". After studying the brake sytem diagrams, I decided to replace the hydraulic modulator (pump). I searched for new/rebuilt parts and found untis from about $950 to $575. Being a frugal mechanic, I continued to scour the internet for a better price. I found a salvage yard selling the unit on ebay for $99+ $15 s/h, which included a 90 day warranty. I purchased the unit from the salvage yard.

I changed out the pump, which was fairly easy. The pump and ABS conrol module are mounted on a common bracket. All the hydraulic fittings are different sizes, making it virtually impossible to install them incorrectly. After bleeding the system, I took it on a road test and after the system ran its ABS system test, the light went off and the fault code could be erased.

I suggest that you use flare nut wrenches on the hydraulic fittings to minimize damage by rounding them off.

I hope this helps you if you have a similar problem.

Wow, that is one great find. $400+ savings, not to mention labor.

And good tip about the flare wrenches...Rounding these guys suck (I rounded the brake line nut. > )

Funny you posted this. I have a replacement junkyard pump sitting in my garage to replace on mine. Did you find that your old one was leaking too? - AB
