Default 1994 850 Corner Light Spring Positioning

Hey folks. New to the board and to this whole forum thing. So, cut me a break

Just picked up a "junked" '94 850 in "decent" shape. Plan on fixing it up and give it to my son. The thing didn't come with corner lights, so I bought some. When trying to installing the corner lights, I have this spring that's supposed to hold the whole assembly in, but I can't seem to find the connecting point for the other end of the spring!

I've looked high and low, taken things apart, and haven't found one place that looks like it'll hold a spring. Unless it's supposed to me screwed in with one of the bolts, but the eyelet seems too large.

If anyone has a schematic or an idea where I can find this damn thing so that I can install. I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks

It should hook onto a small indenty thingy on the main headlight.

Yeah, you just pull the spring out, slide in the corner, and then the spring basically loops around a lip. Real simple, there isn't like a designated spring hook in there.

Thanks so far.

So I'm supposed to just throw that eyelet over some protrusion on the headlight housing? I'm not being a smart ***, I'm just trying to be clear. Thanks again.

Haha, your not, that's exactly what it is. When I took out my corners to tint them I was putting them back in and I was like, now how the hell do these go back in, once I saw how simple it was, I was embarrassed.

Can't say that I'm not a little embarrassed/frustrated as well.

Thanks for all the help, folks.

Just got started building her back up, so I'm sure there will be a time where I come back looking for help.

See ya

Yeah... the corner lights on Volvos tend to be a little bit... chintzy. I just had one go flying off of my S70 tonight on the freeway

yes, there's a little paint damage, as well as a ding (grr). The light didn't actually disappear, it was flapping around in the wind, still attached to the harness. The 2 little prongs that hold it into the headlight bracket are broken off, so it's just the little spring clip and the prong that goes in the fender left. I shoved it back into place, but I'm going to replace it quickly.

Haha, as I was typing that I also got a visual. Driving, light falls out, driver looks over his shoulder waving, turns around and continues on his way.

Since I was thinking about the whole waving part, I then totally pictured this in my mind of the light flapping about in the wind.

Is it just chipped? Maybe a little touch up pen could take care of that.

there's a chip, which I can fix that way, but there's also a tiny dent. You see, in addition to being bigger and heavier than an 850's corner light, the S70's has a sharp tip at the back, and it is attached to the car by this tiny plastic barb that is held up by a little sliver of spring steel- it's even worse of an attachment design than the 850's spring device. So, they pop out with some regularity, and usually do some damage before you manage to pull off the road and either shove it back in or detach it from the wiring. This is the second time this has happened to me. Once on each side, now.

Wow, lame. That's right the 70 series corner lights are huge.
