Default 1994 wagon & carseat question

Hi, I have just purchased a 1994 850 wagon, which I mostly adore. However, I bought it to be a mom-mobile and I am having trouble getting my carseat to install properly. I have a Britax Boulevard, which is a very heavy, high-end carseat, and it should be compatible with my heavy, high end car! Because of the shoulder belt and the seat split, though, it consistently tilts to the side, which is not safe. Plus, where do I attach the tether? Has anyone dealt with this?

Welcome to the forum, and sorry about the problem.

I've never dealt with seats, except cleaning & reconditioning with leather care liquid. Wait to see if other members can help you on this, as there are quite a few experts in the 850 forum.

Sorry I couldn't help you with this.

The safest installation for child seats is using the LATCH system. I don´t think this car has that system. My kids' Graco booster seats are fastened using the seat belt and they fit fine.

Regards
Axel

This car is NOT equipped with the LATCH system as described above. Car manufacturers were not mandated to have this system until 2002. That said, if you are having difficulty installing your car seat propperly, you need to take your car and the carseat (WITHOUT the child in the seat...leave the child at home)to your local fire department station and they will assist you and show you the propper way to install the seat. This is way too difficult of a topic to rely on a web forum to guaranty that your childs car seat is installed correctly. It would be one thing if I could physically see your seat and the way it needs to be installed, andit's another to advise on speculation (I have a car seat mounted in my '96 850R).

Thanks. I fear that the fire department can't help me with this one, although I will give it a try. I know how to install the seat with the shoulder belt in other cars (no problem in my dad's pre-latch Passat), and the issue is that it shifts during use. When I install it, it is level and secure. I have a wonderful Volvo mechanic - maybe I will ask him about it.

I just put a britax marathon in my 95 850 wagon a couple hours ago, rear facing. I put it in the middle seat. If you read your britax manual, it mentions that if there's no anchor for the tether in a rear-facing configuration, you can use the d-ring and little strap to do a slipknot around just about anything in the front seat area that's bolted down (seat belt stuff, a seat itself).

The trouble is, with the electric seats, there was nowhere to put the d-ring and slipknot strap that wasn't going to be moving when someone in the front moved their seat. Lucky for me the anchor is not required for rear-facing.

This forum, though, probably isn't the best place to have a carseat discussion. Safest thing you can do is take it to the dealer either before or after talking to your local car seat safety outfit. Perhaps both before AND after

I haven't done either as of yet.

I also got a lot of good tips at carseat.org. Yeah, the electric seats issue. There are these little rings welded to the floor on either side of the car in the back seat in my car, so I am going to ask my mechanic if they can be used to fix the tether.
