1995 850 turbo (oil leak)
Hi there! I need some help with this oil leak/smell. I have 2 daughters and even now my 6 yr old says "dad what is that smell". I've been told by one mechanic that its the turbo line.... the other said rear main seal.... wow, ones $550 and of course rear main seal is almost $2000. Ive also been told by a friend who used to be a mechanic that he smells a gas like smell inside. I've seen a lot of postings on oil leaks and I didn't know if someone out there knows the usual problem with leaking oil in this yr...? Any help would be great. Also, I live in sw fl and if anyone kmows of a volvo club I would love to be a part of it. Thanks,
Joseph

Hey Joe, Where in South FL are you?
The 850's are notorious for oil leaks but are a lot easier to fix and track down than other cars..
First thigs first... You PCV system, a clogged PCv will **** oil everywhere.
$150 in parts and about 2 hours of work... DONE
Turbo return line
$15 in parts and about 20-30 minutes of time
RMS
$12 part and about 8 hours of time
Oil cap
.99 cent o-ring 2 minutes of work
Turbo leaking
(doubtful unless your burning oil)
$150 for a rebuild kit and about 4 hours of work
Oil cooling lines
Pull a pair from the JY and get them rebuilt for $70.
Then after you swap them send your old ones out to get rebuilt
Those are the most common leaks
Keep in mind these cars do NOT have a valve cover gasket or a oil pan gasket so if anyone tells you that they are full of ****..
Oh and stop on by here if you want ----->> Home
