1997 850 T5 ABS Module replaced
I have a question related to a ABS Module I just replaced on a 1997 850 T5. Unfortunately It didn't fix the ABS, Tracs LT issue. Before I replaced itI removed the old module and covered with plastic and used for a week while I found a replacement which I purchased online on ebay. When I drove the car for a week as I expected the odometer, speedometer did not work while I used it. When I replaced with another I located on ebay which looked exactly the same (numbers were different but he said these numbers superceded the ones I had). When I installed it the LTSdid not go away asI had hoped it would. Nowwith the new ABS Module the odometer, speedometer does not work nor did the Lts goaway.
So I decided to put my old one backin to see if the odometer, speedometer would come back and it did. Now I'm confused, does this tell me the ABS Module I purchased is defective also. When I called back the person who sold it to me he said it was working in the car it came out of supposedly. He told me to disconnect the battery cablesand groundwires together to reset the Computer for 15 seconds. This didn't workeither. I have not heard or seen on anything on anyforum related to this speedometer, odometer issue after installing another ABS Module. I drove 30 minutes from 30-60 MPH for a test drive. Sorry for the lengthy postI tried to add as much info as possible. My old # on ABS was Ate Volvo Controller 9162675 Control Unit + Tracs 4WD. Ifnew ABS# is needed Iwill have to remove.
Any help would be great as I need to get State inspection Sticker.

RE: 1997 850 T5 ABS Module replaced
Since it looks like I have possibly purchased a bad ABS module I guess I'll make an attempt at trying to resolder the bad pinsin my original one I had in the car, what do I have to lose. It's just that they don't lookburnt or crackedat allbut I have a 10 power magnifying glass to take abetter look. I'll try the 2 power pins first.I wish I knew someone that owned an S70 or an 850 and I could remove their ABS module and try it in my 850 to make sure thats the problem. I'm getting pretty good at taking it out nowdown to about 30 minutes without removing any aircleaner box or anything, small hands I guess.

Ok was just making sure.
Maybe if you can use a mirror and get the part number off the one on the car and call Volvo and see if yours crosses over to that number.
Or you could also use the link about repairing the module and try fixing yours.

RE: 1997 850 T5 ABS Module replaced
Well l I finally found time to resolder the 2 PowerPins and put the Module back in not expecting a lot. And surprisingly my speedometer. oddometer, cruise and all instruments that were off are now fine. The ABS/Tracs lights are now off. Hopefully this is permanent fix. I just wrapped black 3M tape around cover that I pried off to resolder. I'll need to pull off one more time to reseal with silicon and reseal the unit. Probably proves that the Module I Purchased on ebay is no good, hopefully he will take back.
My only suggestion to any one attempting this in the future is to get a soldering gunwith above 50watts and a small kids microscope to see the cracks on the pins. Thanks for all the great information on this forum and I'm sure I'll be back again as the car has 270,000 miand the it isn't getting any younger but its in perfect shape interior and exterior. Next post i'll have to do a search on will be about the heating / Cooling instrument panel as I have no heat down at my feet and it's freezing out.

heat vent servo
There is a servo on the passenger side under the glove box that may have gone bad. This servo controls the heater door directing heat to the floor. I inadvertantly mis-installed this little beauty when I replaced my air conditioning evaporator last year. Fortunately I noticed and repaired it before winter set in.
