400bhp?700bhp? on a 5 pot whiteblock?
Hey guys, I got a few genuine questions here:
1. Can a stock, 850 5 cylinder, 2.3 stock internals, particularlty the rods, handle 400~500bhp reliably?
2. and can a whiteblock, in general handle 700bhp, with the stock block?
3. Are the late 5 cylinders crapper than the early ones?
i'm asking because I had a somewhat debat with a guy online, who claims those 5 cylinders in 850 can handle 400~500bhp with no problem in stock format, which made me doubt my memories.
I've been a redblock guy for quite some time, last time I digged into whiteblocks were 4, 5years ago, and to my memory, the stock 5 pot whiteblock, 2.3, are pretty good, but no way can handle 400+ on regular basis, it will be ready to bent a rod and go boom. And the block itself will be also on the edge at 700bhp without serious mods.
Any comments are welcomed, thanks!
