I'm looking at upgrading the factory system in a 94 850. I am looking at infinity reference series. Just wanted some thoughts/tips

Most car speakers that you buy will be 4 ohm. Most of the speakers in your Volvo will be 8 ohm. Usually the front doors are 4 ohm, but all the rest are will be 8 ohm. If you choose to run 4 ohms all around you will be undue strain on the built in amps of your radio and you will lose a lot of sound as well. They will sound weak. You could stop running your rear door speakers and put 4 ohms in the shelf and then stop running your dash speakers and put 4 ohms in the front doors. Or you do as I have done and search long and hard and find 8 ohm speakers that will work.

 

Why do you want to upgrade the stereo? If you get a nice Premium Sound System out of a newer 850, S70 or 960, the sound will be great.

 

l need one Robert. l need the tape with cd player that says premium sound plus one rear speaker. is there anyway you can get me one?

 

RSPI- I did put the premium in it, but most of the speakers crackle and sound bad. The two on the dash don't work at all. One in the rear deck works, but the other one does not. I have two in the rear doors that are out of a wagon that are decent and the two in the front door work.
