Default 850 Manual Transmission Question

When reinstalling the clutch release bearing, I've heard two different things about whether I should lube the input shaft or not lube it.. My Sachs turbo clutch kit came with a little packet of lube, but I'm confused now.. Also, am I correct in not lubricating the throwout bearing guide sleeve? One more question, does the release fork really just hold the release bearing on there by those two little divots in the arm? Thanks

I haven't done a Volvo clutch.
All the clutches I have done I have lubricated the snout of the transmissions input shaft that the throwout bearing rides on with a little grease.
I pulled up the Volvo service manual and it doesn't say to lube it. It doesn't say not to. It is a metal to metal contact point that needs to slide so unless someone else jumps in to say different, I'd say to spread a little bit of grease on it.

On most clutches there isn't much that holds the fork to the bearing. That's because foot pressure will force it up against the pressure plates fingers and the pressure plate will push it away when you release the pedal. So there isn't much of a "retainer" needed. Once you get the transmission installed there just isn't any place for the bearing to go.

I greased mine. Use a good quality grease.

Thanks Boxpin. Since I haven't done one I didn't want to jump in with my two cents but no one else was either.

When I put the throwout bearing on the shaft, I moved it back and forth thinking I dont want it to bind or wear out so I greased it. Just make sure you dont use cheap grease that turns to liquid later, know what I mean?
