Default 850 R Turbo Problems? UPDATE

I posted a thread on "turbo problems" about two weeks ago and I found out the problem. A vacuum hose was disconnected causing the turbo to over-boost and then the engine would cut out.

Once I fixed it, the car was a dog, the boost needle went hardly past the middle, barely into the white. I heard that you can put a boost control valve on that particular vacuum line and get more boost.

What do you guys think about this? and what is a "safe" level of boost, I don't want to blow it up, I just want a little more power.

The needle is only supposed to go about half way into the white. You can put a MBC on only with a boost gauge. 15P SI is fuel cut. Would recommend setting MBC no more than 13.5 PSI to allow for boost spikes.

Which hose was disconnected? I'm having the same problem with mine, cuts out when it shifts to second and the boost gauge pegs.

What is an MBC? Can someone please recommend a boost gauge and how and where do I hook one up.

The hose goes way down near the turbo. You need a flashlight to see it. I think there are two that go near the turbo, this one was lower, I hope that helps.

Manual boost control. You can get boost gauges anywhere, just google it. Otherwise IPD sells a boost gauge with instructions on how to hook it up.

That fixed it! Thank you. The same hose you described was broken in half on mine. Though, now it doesn't seem to pull as hard once it shifts into second...can kind of watch the gauge slowly drop some. BUT, in first gear the thing pulls like a freight train....?

Gilber33, can you safely run 13.5 lbs with everything else being stock?

Yes you can. My wife's car(white one in sig pic) only has a MBC and is running 13.5 all day long and can keep up with mine.

Make sure everything else is up to par, especially your hoses, you start running more boost and you put more pressure on everything else. And don't forget, you NEED a boost gauge.
