Default UPDATE on 850..new problems

THE GOOD
Did tune-up today.

wires looked new and were oemso didnt change them.

plugs looked ok but were WAAYYY to loose, changed em.

also did cap rotor air filter..and almost did fuel filter but it started to rain.

i checked the timing belt and it looked like it had been serviced recently.

i used a lucas fuel injector and topped off with 91 gas

I also found an 850 being parted out near my home.so i plan on checking that out
Shes running alot better now[sm=gears.gif]

THE BAD

i was checking to see if i needed to service the PCV system because there was alot of oil on the engine and fumes coming from the oil dipstick.and when i played with the throttle to check the dipstick i heard the serpentine belt squeak when i released it...does this mean its time to replace the belt? also the tune-up is the only experience ive ever had under the hood EVER! so should i leave the pcv up to a shop? and what can i expect to pay for this job?I saw the kit at fcp for about $150..THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS!!

THE GOOD

PCV kit replacement should be easy enough for you. If you can do a tune-up, consider PCV replacement as a part of tune-up. However, you will need to buy a new intake manifold gasket, because you have to remove it in order to gain access to PCV components.

THE BAD

Not paying attention to details would make you say, after you have installed the intake manifold,"Oh ****! I forgot to install this tube and that clamp[8D]!!" sort of deal.

I wouldn't let a shop do the PCV I had one do mine and they worked on Volvos (and had a lot outside) but even they didn't do such a good job. I still have oil pooling on top of the engine. I am going to have to tear it down and redo it soon. Do it yourself so you know it's done right. There's a writeup floating around here somewhere that is amazing. Someone will probably link to it.

alright this helps alot guys!!!..i was thinking of just tryingto cleanit first since im a little short on cash at the moment for a full replacement.but it seems pretty straight forward.

so what specific parts would i want to clean and how would i clean them?

also about how long can i expect to take seeing as i am a novice?

And how boutthe whistling/squeaking noise i hear from the serpentine belt?

Thanks again guys!!! this forum has saved my wallet and most importantly my car

Try some belt dressing spray on the belt first. That works well in a lot of cases

And in case if you decide to have the serp replaced, make sure to go with the OEM Continental-Tech. That belt is definitely different, especially on its back where there is a criss-cross hatch pattern for better traction on the pulley. Also, there are 2 different length and I would get the longer belt. The routing is a bit different between the long & short belts.
