850 Stalling on turns (moved from 240/740/940)
Same with mine (1994 stick, 850) on tight turns up hill. The grade is not that bad but if I let my foot off the accelerator for any reason (say to downshift), it'll stall, especially if there's no much fuel left. There's also a gasoline smell. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fuel tank cap not closing tight enough? Once it stalled, I just down shifted to 2 and it caught and kept going. Another time, no downshifting helped. I just coasted until I put it in gear then it caught and took off. Sounds like a fuel problem, no?
When I stall on tight uphill turns, on all occasions, the fuel tank has been close to about 4 gallons. But once filled beyond that, especially nearly full, it has never happened. That suggests a gasoline pressure problem, which could be many things I suppose. Gas cap, fuel pump (it's new on mine), gas intake leak, maybe air intake leak as well. What do you think?

I've only had stalling in my VW's, I'd check the in- tank pump operation soon because it will kill your main pump if it is out. Never had other symptoms operationally with a bad in- tank other than stalling on turns.
yeah, Bosch LH fuel injection systems used on 240's and most 740/940's have dual pumps, the tank pump is just a booster, the main pump is under the car. Some 7/9's have regina injection, this only uses a single in-tank pump (which is a high pressure pump unlike the in-tank pump used with LH).
without the main pump, the engine flat won't run, there's no fuel pressure.

ooof, I just browsed this thread again. Lulumike has a 850, that only has the single in-tank pump, and NONE of this is applicable, in fact, it belongs in the 850 forum, where I'm going to move it.
