850 Start Issue Kicking My Butt

RE: 850 Start Issue Kicking My Butt
I put a new cam position sensor in it 3 months ago when I first started having the problems with it. I'll pull it out and make sure it's not caked in oil though. Thanks, I wouldn't have thought of that. 3 months ago it also got new plugs, wires, cap, rotor.

When you turn on the key to run, do the idiot lights come on? Sometimes when I try to start mine, the idiot lights are off, and it cranks continuously without spark. I'll put it in N, and the lights come on, and it starts right up. My guess is that is the PNP sensor. I'd check for that.

Thanks for all the responses and suggestsions! Swede, the lights do come on, but I will keep that in mind if I have any more start troubles. The problem seems to have been contaminated gas.
I had a ASE Tech friend look at it and he went through all the obvious - had good fuel pressure, compression, spark, etc. When he pulled the plugs he thought they didn't smell right. The car had 1/3 tank of gas, so it wasn't low and pulling crap from the bottom, but we filled it with fresh 93 anyhow, got it to fire with starting fluid in the throttle body, and held the throttle to keep it running. Ran rough for a few minutes and then it smoothed out, so I let it idle in the driveway for a little while and then took it out for a long interstate run. Seems like it's back to normal now. I drove the car to work this morning and it's been behaving all day. Hopefully it'll be good for a while! It's frustrating to have caused all this hoopla over 10 bucks worth of bad gas. Thanks again for all the help!!

Well, we got a final explanation via the local newspaper. Some [sm=smiley35.gif] fuel delivery driver mistakenly pumped KEROSENE into the gasoline tanks at the Shell down the street from my house where my wife normally fills the car. Frustrating as hell that the reason we were without a car for a week was because my wife paid $2.21 a gallon for a half tank of damn kerosene. At least I know we're not crazy though...and it explains the plugs not smelling right.
