I recently purchased a 94 855 turbo and have since found that it needs a few things

one of which is a problem right now

the right side of the tranny and that entire area behind the engine along with the turbo are drenched in what is ATF. i noticed that when you have outside air coming in you smell the ATF burning

question what needs to be replaced? the passenger half shaft?

it leaks right by where the half shaft enters the tranny.

any help = <3

 

It might just be the seal. But also is someone replaced the axle and put one in there that is to small it would leak from that area as well.

i know i can get them from ipd for like 180 which is pretty cheap but how can someone for example put one that is too small ???? did they make different sizes?

i do not hear any noise when driving from that area of the car to indicate vibration or anything of that sort...

also if i want to replace the seal where can i get that?

and finally if i replace the driveshaft does it come with the seal on the tranny? will it leak?

this is the 1st time really working on volvos i had a 945 turbo previously but not long enough to have anything break, i have a 99 bmw m3 which has everything upgraded, suspension, brakes, lines, bushings, full euro 3.2 engine swap, 6 speed, full REAL supersprint exhaust including headers, bosch this bosch that etc etc i mean everything is done to it to euro spec.

 

If it is an aftermarket axle the part where the seal rides on might have been machined a hair to small. The only reason I said it was because I have seen it a few times from cheap axle company's. You should be able to get one from FCPGROTON.com.
