No way that car drives like a normal car without the turbo being functional. I've had intercooler hoses pop off and I can assure you the car runs terrible without the turbo. That being said, it if truly just needs a turbo, you could have a nice little bargain there. Like buying any used car, have it professionally checked out before proceeding.

Yes, if the intercooler pipes and hoses are connected properly -- bypassing the turbo, using air flow meter, no leaks, the car will run fine. It will run like it was normally aspirated. It will run slower than a non-turbo car, because it has lower engine compression -- 8.5:1 versus 10:1.

Have your turbo professionally rebuilt . If you can't find one in your country, e-mail...

Never knew you could reroute the hoses and bypass the turbo like that. I guess I should have kept quiet on this one!! Sorry about that. When I lost my intercooler hose the car would not go more than 25mph and would stall out when coming to a stop.

If the turbo is bypassed, I guess the ECU is able to compensate? I wonder if it would pass emissions testing?

Maybe I should have a disclaimer...

I have not tried running a Volvo 850 with the intercooler hoses connected together -- bypassing the turbo. However, I have seen several Mitsubishi(s) run just fine without their turbo.
