850 wipers gone wacky
So I have come across a problem with both 96 850's I have owned. The driverside windshield wiper comes off the windshield when it gets to about 75-80 degrees in its upward swing. When it did this on my sedan, I attributed it to whomever replaced the windshield bent the linkage, but then the other week I turned on the wipers in my wagon and discovered it was leaving the windshield at the same spot and my wagon has the original glass in it. Living in Arizona dose'nt neccessitate using the wipers all that often, maybe once a month outside of monsoon season, but when I do need them it would be nice to be able to see without having to gangsta lean. Is this a common problem and if so is there a cheaper fix than new linkage?
My 97 850 does the same thing. I did not notice on my 94 850 nor on my 98 V70. The blade actually comes off the windshield on the far left side on the 97. I drive in rain quite a bit and it's a nuisance. I think it is a known problem, but I don't know of a solution.
There are two options:
1. Buy a new wiper arm from a dealer
2. Click Here
I used #2 and it's worked great. I took mine off though and bent it in a vise. - AB

Yes remove it and stick it on a Vise and give it a hair of a bend just above the hole in the arm.
Caution it is made of POP METAL which will break if pushed to hard. Just kind of lean on it a little. Then try it and see if it is better.

Hi,
No one may read my reply, as the original message was posted in 2005.
I had the same problem with my 1994 850 Turbo T5 sedan. What I did was to use a "half-washer". I cut a washer in half, and installed it between the wiper arm holding nut and the arm. This way, the wiper blade is installed at an angle and stays on the windshield. Make sure to do it the correct angle, otherwise the wiper will stay off regardless of the position.

JPN
