Default 850 won't rev past 3k, major loss of power.

So this just started happening the other day. It idles fine but when you drive it's like driving a turtle. Press the gas all the way to the floor and it just won't go, I luckily live where there are no hills so it works ok but I can't take it anywhere near a highway.

I placed it in neutral and it does the same thing, slowly goes to just under 3k and that's about all she wrote. Just changed the oil but it has been butt whipping cold the last couple of days. Anybody have similar issues?

Oh right, it's a 95 850 turbo sedan with about 180k on her.
Thanks!

Is the check engine light on? If so, read the code(s) and report back......if I had I had to hazard a guess though it sounds like a bad Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF).

During last winters cold snap, my car lost power after being parked outside all day at work in single figure temps. Turns out the Turbo Intercooler was almost completely frozen through on the inside. Moisture from the crank vent system will get into the intake stream when the small vacuum hose heading into the right side of the intake manifold gets clogged or gets broken. The lack of air flow through the intercooler means loss of power. I used a hair dryer to thaw out the intercooler. You will see water flowing out of the 2 weep holes in the bottom of the intercooler. Open the holes if they are clogged up.

I agree on checking the MAF - You can pull your own codes by going into the diagnostics module (left front in engine) put the connector into the #2, turn key to #2 then press the button by the LED for few seconds to watch the codes blink out. 1-1-1 means no stored codes. write down each code, repeat until you see all the codes, then hold the button for 6-7 sec, release then press again when the LED comes back on for another 6-7 sec.

Other possible issues could be fuel filter, air filter, fuel pump relay, clogged CAT... also visually inspect tubing - ie is the intake tube from the airbox ok? any obvious air leaks via torn tubes, cracked Ts? you may try spraying or misting tricks for that diagnostic

Thanks folks! I was worried that an intake pipe or some important rubber hose was compromised, but I threw a bottle of heet and a full tank of premium gas and it's running a champ.
