94' 850 n/a cutting out at part throttle

Hi it's a 2.4 20 valve, the car will idle ok, but if i give it 1/4 throttle or more it cuts out at about 2k rpms it sounds like its hitting rev limiter, the CEL is on i'm getting a 1-2-1 any help would be great thanks

two things come to mind, rip in the boot between the maf and the throttle body or a bad throttle position switch.
