Default 94 850 Turbo Flame Trap?

I am in need of some expertise and I thought you guys may be able to help me. There is much confusion about this. My volvo 1994 850 turbo has positive crankcase pressure building when I drive. I spit oil and blow out my dip stick after hard drives. Does my 1994 TURBO car have a flame trap that I could replace? Some people seem to think that the turbo volvos have no flame trap. thanks!

There is no flame trap on the turbos. This doesn't mean that one of the hoses isn't clogged with oil and other gunk.

I agree check all the Vaccum line and hoses from the breather box.

I have a 94 non-turbo which I know has a flame trap.I amjust about finished doing a head gasket, valve job, timing belt, etc. on. I've gotten to the point where the pictures I took 3 months ago of the wires and vacuum lines aremissing a few key details.

In particular I am trying to find out two things.

First, where does the vaccum line attached to my flame trap go?
Second, how should I route that hard plastic tube running from the cannister to the flame trap?

Same problem here. Where exactly is the breather box? Sorry for my ignorance. English is not my mother language.

Nice to see you back on the forum, Tech.

Sounds like the same problem that I am having now. Here is some info on the problem and there is a good link in there for replacing the pcv system.

No the breather box is located under the intake manifold. I has several (three?) connections 2 to the engine and one to the intake before the throttle body. I'm not sure if there are more though.

Thanks, I found some pictures of the black breather box under the intake manifold in a thread regarding PCV service.

anyone with Positive Pressure issues should spend the money and replace the hoses and oil trap without exception. Its the first place to start when trying to fix this issue, and the best way to look at it if you're strapped for cash, is its approx $150 now to buy the hoses and oil trap from FCPGroton, OR $1000 later if you end up waiting till you blow your rear main seal and other gaskets...because thats whats coming.

Crap, if I pull the oil dipstick with the engine running I get A LOT of fumes coming out. The car's fumes are smelling worse than ever, my lambda light is on. The top of the head is full of oil coming out of the oil cap. Inside the passenger cabin you can smell fumes, and if you ride an hour on a highway you smell like you've been working at a bus terminal. My wife says she will not use the car anymore since she arrives at the office smelling like a car mechanic.

Apparently the PCV problem is getting serious now, I hope it can wait 2 months to be serviced since my business parter or I will be visiting a customer in Clearwater, FL in July and we will buy the parts then at 1/4 of the cost in my country.

Is there anything I can clean/check in the meanwhile without having parts?

On top of this my wife scratched my car last week in a small accident with a truck. Myrefrigeratordiedlast week too, so I'm looking at cutting down on extras the next trimester to compensate

A certain Mr. Murphy has been visiting us for the last month.

I will agree 100% with JBVolvo there. You can see why I agree in pictures of my engineand transmission on the floor in my garage. The previous owner maintained the car and oil changes,,,,,,, at Jiffy Lube!! They never glanced at the flame trap (97 Non-Turbo) and I am replacing my rear main seal this week. I pulled the entire engine with the transmission but the reason I had to pull it was due to flametrap neglect. $1200 for the dealer to replace an $11 seal so I yanked it myself. Most people drop the subframe and support the engine and pull the transmission but I want to replace all my hoses, timing belt, etc. so pulled it all together. JBVolvo hit the nail on the head though, $150 now or $1200-1500 in a year or so.

Get the kit and read some post on the forums, the breather box is a tedious but fairly straightforward job. Easily done in one saturday or less, I work really slow.

Good luck,
Rob
