will the anti-theft relay keep amy car from starting? if its bad, ihave changed other relay and it still want do anything. it starts sometimes(more than not),but when it doesnt i can hear a relay clicking under the dash. i changed the little black one.

 

Maybe but it might also be the starter.
Connect a test light to the small wire on the starter when it won't start and see if it lights up when you try to start and it won't turn over.

 

The clicking you mention sounds like the starter solenoid. Follow Tech's advice to either confirm or eliminate a bad starter

 

I've just figured out what was causeing my daughters 95'850T not to start intermittently, I knew it had to be some sort of lockout, and it was. It is an automatic and the gear selector switch is worn or out of adjustment. At first I didn't think that this was it becausenormally when that happens wiggling the shifter front to back would cause it to work on most cars. But on this one I just happened to try it in neutral and it started when I would pull back slightly on the shifter in the neutral position. I will eventually have to replace or bypass this switch, as it will almost never turn over in park now. It's too cold to get under it now, but does anybody know if this switch is internal or external to the transmission, or is it under the shifter console?

 

It is the PNP switch. It is external on the top of the transmission. Try quickly "rowing" the shifter back and forth from park to low 15 or 20 times. Particularly when it is cold the grease inside of it gets stiff and it won't make a good electrical connection. When you replace it the alignment is critical.
