95 850GLT Fuel sender pump replacement
Hi I have been having a series of problems with my 850GLT non-turbo 215K miles. Just about everything has been replaced in past 2 years. Since I came out of hospital after 6 weeks car would not start multiple attempts then started real rough. Had towed to Dealer for computer diagnostics they said camshaft rear seal leaked; intake throttle fouled ignition wires distributor fouled they cleaned replaced throttle intake gasket and charged $366. on top of the $95. for PC diagnostics. Since then I replaced ignition wires, plugs, rear camshaft seal, distributor cap & rotor. Car still starts real rough takes 4-5 attempts to start. Took it to a specialist who ran diagnostics & replaced Air Mass Sensor problem seemed gone but returned in couple of days. Check engine light is on all the time. Another specialist also told me AC compressor badly corroded, AC was intermittently blowing real cold then hot air. Replaced compressor and accumulator now AC working fine. But start-up still rough check engine light is on all the time. A commercial auto parts chain advertised free computer Dx code said fuel mix to rich but they did not have Volvo codes matched instead to VW codes suggested I research code on internet, based on VW code interpretation and internet research & another specialist suggested leaking fuel injector, but no evidence of this upon examination and all solenoids for injectors working fine, I replaced the RPM ignition sensor as he also suggested that. I wondering if the ignition coil has a problem? In meantime Heater Core went leaking antifreeze all over passenger side carpet, replaced it now that's all OK. In meantime New symptom started fuel tank is full driving short distance its reading full then all of sudden reads empty but no warning light comes on. Later after shutting off and restart tank reads full or near full as it should. Replaced Fuel Relay, no improvement. Thinking its the fuel sender pump in gas tank and its sensor. Got new OEM sender pump with relay and sealing gasket. Do you think this is the problem for start up and gas gage problem, how easy or difficult to replace it? I have had huge expenses & am still recovering from being very ill so only working part time now so $ is tight. Thanks in advance for your help.

follow up: I don't know if all 850GLT wagons are like this one? mine has 214K mikes now but in past 2 years I have fixed & replaced so many things it makes me dizzy. These include; Rack and pinion, starter, radiator, timing belt, water pump, Tie Rods, sway bar links, drivers side sway bar, ball joints, Rt front spindle, fender, rocker panel, wheel bearings, brake calipers, front struts, rear shocks & springs, drivers side door lock, exhaust system, heater core, AC compressor and accumulator, ABS brake sensor, gas tank -recalled, fuel filter, wiper motor, rear hatch wiper motor, transmission, ignition RPM sensor, Air Mass Sensor, Exhaust manifold, steering clock spring mechanism, plus all the regular maintenance items brake pads rotors, ignition wires, plugs, distributor cap & rotor, oil & fuel filters, battery. Is this typical for this model? Now looks like fuel sender pump has to be be replaced. Am I good to go after all this? these things happen lets say every month or every other month I keep thinking OK I I have fixed all these things & now I need fix the current problem & then should be OK for awhile...but then kablam something else happens. What's your opinion should I give up on this car or keep it cause its 90% replaced fixed and should be trouble free for a while?

Sounds like you've done just about everything and no one has had any mercy on you. If you read the NEW 850 OWNER thread, you'll see that you've just about done it all. In your case the title could read THE 850 REBUILD thread.
That being said, if the fuel pump is going bad one of your mechanics can check the fuel pressure pretty easy. That should be checked before the pump is replaced. There should be a DIY thread for that somewhere in this forum.
These cars will run/drive with a lot of things wrong with them and it sure sounds like your car had it's share of problems/wear on it. They are hard to own if you don't know how to turn a wrench.
BTW, what code is the computer giving and what year is the car? Mine has 214,500 on the dash.

Thanks RSPI
Thank you for your reply. The dealer did not provide the code number nor the Volvo specialist place, I will ask them for the number. The parts store (chain) did but I have misplaced it and will look for it. my 850 GLT is a 1995 it was brought here from Germany after a couple of years use there. I do as much of the mechanical work as I can but this has been limited as I am disabled, I still do as much as I can for minor repairs to save money. Thanks I agree and will have fuel pressure checked. The fuel filter was replaced 2 years ago I have a new Bosch one ready to put in now as well. Yes I have looked at the 850 threads here but not specifically the 850 Owner thread I will check it out. Once the problem is resolved I will
