Question 95 T5 A/C Problem

I have a 1995 T5 Wagon. I have had it for several years, but last year the a/c started acting weird. It started blowing warm air after driving for a bit. It starts out really cold every time and then blows warm air through the vents. I checked the a/c low pressure line and it is cold even when its blowing warm air. Its like the door inside the cabin has closed or switched partially over to heat mixing the air coming in to the cabin?? I could really use some advise if anyone has run into this before.

Do you have the automatic dual climate control system where there is a separate temp control for the driver and passenger?

There are dual controls on both the Auto climate and the manual. I think Rspi's question is what system do you have?

Automatic climate control or manual. Automatic has a variable fan control, manual has specific speeds.

Are your A/C and Rec lights flashing when you start the car? My thought was the air sensor fan was not running and giving false readings. Also, if you drive with your windows cracked the Air sensor will be taking in the wrong temperature air.

Default 95 T5 A/C Problem

Thanks boxpin, as you tell I don't get some of the lingo. Answer is I have the automatic dual climate control.

I do not have any lights flashing on either the rec or a/c switches and I do not drive with the windows down until the a/c stops working correctly.

Example is today I drove approximately 12 miles with the a/c cooling great and then suddenly the a/c starts blowing warm air, not hot like the heater is on, just warm. Everyday it starts out great and them does that. I can still hear the a/c clutch cycle on and off when it gets warm. This is my first Volvo and I believe that something is going haywire causing the air to mix warm in the cabin?

I appreciate the thoughts.

If your compressor is cycling fast, You should go get your levels checked... If your levels are ok id start with a vacuum down (remove air) of your system and a recharge w/ oil & dye treatment.

It also may be a clogged orifice tube or a bad high pressure switch...

If you have not replaced the evaporator since the car was new it is likely leaking. Evaporators start leaking in cars after a while and mine does leak in my sedan. When it gets a little low on freon it gets cold for a few minutes then starts cycling on and off. I usually toss a can of the freon in it and it's good to go for a few weeks.

i am new to the forum, just joined due to a very similar problem, with this post. My a/c goes for like 5 min, i can hear the compressor engaging every 10-15 sec, and the air is cold. After 5-10 min, the compressor shuts off, and no air, sometimes when i switch to a lower fan speed, will engage again, and after that there is no hope, for 20-30 min. Just bypassed the temp switch today, and the problem didnt resolve. Checked the pressure in the system, while a/c work properly, it goes from 30 to 60 psi, when compressor engages and disengages. When car is off the pressure in the system is around 80 psi. So far what i ve seen in the threads, the next step is going to be the pressure switch, but really wanted to consult with you, since you have been on this forum, for a while, and your posts seemed to have lots of sense. Please advise me for real quick, if there is a point of replacing the pressure switch, or just get a new compressor. Btw i have 96 volvo 850 non turbo

Have you checked this thread?

My guess would be that you have a compressor clutch problem.

thanks for the heads up, i will try to broom handle tomorrow, to see, if the clutch needs the help to be pushed. if thats the case, seems like its easy to replace the compressor. the shimming process seems, very complicated, since i dont have the proper measurement tools, and so far what i have red, you got to be precise.
