picked it up for $200 3 years ago, just getting going on it. I will be posting the technical challenges I run into as I proceed.
So far I've done some front end stuff (axle, sway bar link, etc.) and odds and ends in the engine compartment (free up the throttle mechanism, etc.)
Now I'm into the rear brakes (parking brake seized). Ill be wedging off the rotor somehow (it rocks but won't turn or come off, and the star adjuster isn't lined up with the access hole. Suggestions welcome). Fires right up, runs strong. Needs basically everything but a solid rig without too much rust.
yep the parking brakes are essentially a drum brake behind the rotor. worst case the shoes have fallen apart so you may need to pull hard and wiggle. Parts are available so not a huge deal.
Unfortunately you may end up destroying stuff to be able to get rotor off, or e brake loose. If e brake cable is rusted in the on position - a torch may loosen the rust. So I would get the e brake loose, then see if any calipers were stuck. I haven't used an e brake (except on a steep hill with a manual trans) in many years.
I ended up drilling holes in the frozen rotors to access the adjuster star, and was able to remove the discs that way.
Parking brake components trashed so I've ordered it all up. May as well do it now, car is worth it as far as I can see.
The car is nearly road-ready, need to hang the exhaust system (manifold and cat are already installed), any tips about getting that long rear section threaded over the rear axle/swing arm are welcome. I figure I'll just need to raise it up enough to get the proper angles, nothing on youtube.
