'96 850 Turbo - starting issues (idle)
Hey all, I have recently purchased a '96 850 Turbo and have recently changed the blower motor, control board, and the ignition switch. This evening, driving down I-5, I noticed some lagging troubles, then about a mile from the house the car (while traveling at 65 MPH) just shut off! All the dummy lights on, and the speedo or the rpm gauge not reading.... threw it in neutral and turned the key, had troubles getting started, had to give gas, and run engine to over 1500 RPM to stay started... Was able to coast home basically... Now, car will not stay running when trying to start.... Only if I rev engine to over 1500 RPM... Any ideas I can look at?
Also, Check Engine light is on - I only have a generic OBD-II reader, so I am receiving EVAP codes, I do know that... Could a faulty MAF sensor really cause these idle problems though? I did also take the car down to a local Volvo mechanic and had a buyers inspection done... They have confirmed that the codes deal with the EVAP system, but say it could just be a cracked house down the line... Is it possible for the fuel filter to maybe cause this issue also? As maybe it is just not sending the proper amount of fuel needed at the current RPM? What about a water pump issue? I was informed that the water pump was "seaping"... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again all!

Hey boss, thanks for getting back to me and giving me a good starting point... I went out this morning in some light, and opened the hood, to see that one of the 1" hoses coming out of the air control valve was nearly coming off its post! I went ahead and fully reattached it, and what do you know, walla! It worked just fine....
The next project I need to do like ASAP on this car, is change the timing belt, tensioner and arm, water pump, and serpintine belt... I also need to change the starter, it has started "hahaha" going out quite offten... Getting ready to die I am affriad. I am struggling with which is more important first, and most expinesive to take on - as I am limitted on funds. Done some research into changing the timing, and apparently it is "time consuming", and "tight working spaces" but do able in about 3.5 - 4 hours... so, I hope so, and the starter looks fairly simple...

LOL. I don't like frenchies either...
Here is a crazy idea -- check out if you have other Volvo members close to you, that are willing to lend you a hand for a few Miller Lites.
