Default '96 850R intermittent speedo

The speedo/odo on my 850R started acting up about a week or so ago and has gotten progressively worse. Here are the symptoms: I can get in the car and drive and it works as it should, shut the car off, restart minutes/hours later and it may or may not work. Stop car, restart and its working again. Initially it was about a 50/50 chance that it would work , but it seems to be getting more unreliable as time goes on. At times it will work and then I look down while driving and its not working again--very frustrating. There is NO ABS light/no codes stored which makes me want to rule out the ABS module (which can apparently cause these probs). I have wiggled the ignition switch (even while driving) but it has no effect on the intermittent speedo/odo prob. Where should I start ?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions/expertise,

Dan

Its your abs module... Your speed signal runs through the module, the main contacts for the module may not have brokenwhich is why your abs tracs light isnt on but the speedo joints have.

Contact matt, he will take care of you

Default ABS module

I had called the guys at ASI earlier and they said since the ABS light wasn't on, the ABS module wasn't the culprit. I would love to have the prob easily solved by getting a module from Midwest but I would like to call them first and see what they think--got a # ? --its not listed on their website.

Thanks,

Dan

Just email him..MidwestModules@gmail.com

ASI is incorrect, there are about 21 leads that need to be re-soldered, your abs/tracs might not be on yet but they will be soon. thats how mine went out on my 96, speedo was intermittent and i kept popping it into neutral and turning the key off then right back on. Not only did it burn out my fuel pump after 4 months but it took that long for the lights to start coming on.

I sent it to ASI they hacked it open and fixed only the two main posts, it went back out in 3 days. I contacted them and they said the module was toast and I needed a new one...

I sent it to matt after that he fixed it right.. re-soldered all the contacts and I havent had a problem in 3 years.

Matt owns volvo and only works on volvo abs modules... Who do you think knows what they are talking about lol

Default Me Too

Bringing this back! Sorry--

So ive had intermittent Speedo now for the last year, but i \ve has ABS on since ive owned the car ( 5 years ) .... That said... ive always cleaned the ABS sensors off ( that bolt to the wheel hub) and it seemed to temporarily solve the issue. Does it sound like im on the wrong track and i need my Module restored?

same car... 96 855R

Thanks!
