Hey techs!
I need help, I have a 96 850 Turbo Wagon and about every third start I have this problem.
I'll start the car and the ABS light, along with the Tracs light will stay on... the Shift Lockout won't unlock with the brake depressed, and the dash/ODO/mpg readout, head lights and turn signals won't work at all.
Then, if I shut the car off, and try again, the problem goes away and everything works like it should. Sometimes it takes two tries, but always goes away. There are no codes to be pulled either.
Got any ideas? Can this be caused by a bad shift lock microswitch, or is this an ignition problem? Dash cluster problem? Anyone ever had this issue before?

I would start with the electrical part of the ignition switch. You might also have a bad ABS module.

 

Thanks- after a little more research, I decided to replace the electrical portion of the ignition. Works great now, problem solved.
