AC condenser leaking... can I fix it myself?
I see a constant drip from the bottom of the AC condenser (passenger side). I see no leaks from hoses. All other surfaces appear to be dry.
Q: How long would it take me to fix myself?
Q: Do I need to replace the condenser or the radiator and the condenser?
Q: Can I drive around with a constant drip? (My belief is yes, as long as I pull over and fill it frequently but it's not very environmentally friendly.)
THANKS for any information.
My skill level
- replaced my own starter
- replaced my own fuel pump twice

Umm, I'm assuming you're seeing coolant from the radiator?
Only thing in condenser is freon (gas) and some oil. When condenser springs a leak usually can tell by the tell-tale signs of oil on it. But it's usually not enough to drip.

It is definitely radiator fluid. Bright green drip.
The AC works but it's crappy. You can hear it 'cycling' or whatever. I topped off the R-134a about a year ago. Didn't seem to do much. Still 'cycles' like the AC is about to die at any moment. I think it's the clutch or whatever. I'm not sure. Just worried right now about the bright, green coolant dripping. Thanks.
Suggesting you find the leak and repair whatever is bleeding coolant from your engines cooling system.
Radiator or hose, might be a loose clamp at the radiator allowing fluid to drip down. Need to get in there and look around to see where the "trail" leads. No way to tell you from here where it's leaking from

I guess it was a terrible mistake thinking that someone might have encountered this problem before and might know the answer. It happens all the time on this board. But apparently I did something terribly wrong by asking a question. Clearly you have no clue what the answer is. Maybe if you don't know the answer you could just do everyone a favor and keep your mouth shut.

Sorry; we're not right there where your vehicle is so we can't see exactly where the problem is; only you can do that. Or you can pay someone else to do it because apparently you're too lazy get down there and look at it yourself.
Good luck when you take it into the shop; make sure you have them replace the condenser and muffler bearing; oh yeah, also the loose nut behind the steering wheel.
You asked for clarification on if "we" were recommending you replace the radiator. I surely wouldn't do that until I confirmed it indeed was leaking and the source of the drip. Go ahead and replace the radiator and if that doesn't fix it ,,,, replace something else. Sooner or later you're sure to fix the problem.
I wasn't being short with you I was being realistic. You have a coolant leak coming from your AC condenser or so you posted. How much help do you think we can give you other than to point you back toward the leak and have you or someone on site actually find the source. Read my reply, I did give you possible sources and was trying to let you know not to jump to the radiator right away.
Why not take a shot at RSPI for saying you have crappy air and trying to scare you with a blown head gasket or Ibified for pointing out that coolant doesn't come out of an AC condenser, it's like saying you're stupid or something.
Sorry you took my effort to answer your question and give you what I mistook as constructive advise as being in need of shutting up. I guess I should try to pull the 1,327 other posts I've made because they are as much BS as my answer to you was.
Done
Thanks Gdog, I thought I was giving him good advise, my mistake.
