Smile Air Cleaning Assembly

I really don't know if this was somewhere else amongst the forums, kind of in a rush so just wanted to toos this out there. When I first bought my car i ripped out the air cleaning assembly and put a cone air filter on. From what I heard the box is better because the cone sucks heat fromthe engine. I sold the box and now don't have it. Ebay has many different types but i don't remember what mine looked like*1995 volvo 850 glt non-turbo*. Do you think the cone is fine....I do alot of driving....do you think if i buy the box awith a kn filter my car would run better....better mpg's maby? And maby I can make a custom metal box with a rubber top and funnel it out the front......cone sucks alot of air in..........the metal box will keep engine heat out. Thank you in advance for any advice.

I've seen a lot of boxes around the cones. Not to many cones just laying in the motor compartment. I have a box and K & N. I use the Scan Gauge II to help me learn how to get the best gas mileage. I get about 25 around town and about 31 on the highway. I don't drive to fast.

Is your car turbo? Is it chipped? If not, I don't see the point of a cone filter.

I actually bought my car from a guy who was big in to volvos and he ended up telling me to put the cone in, so i did lol. My car is Non-turbo so Ialso didnt really see the need for it other than the fact that it looks cool. So now sense I dont have the box anymore andmy cone is just chilling in the engine compartment...i thought it would be cool to make a box around it feeding in cold air. If i make it out of sheet metal it will be cheaper than buying a newbox off of ebay.Yeah im going to buy that gauge in two weeks just to see if my car is at proper mpgs.

Look at my thread in the reviews sections. There is another gauge that is similar that only cost about $60. Let me know if you can't find it, I'll look it up for you.

There are several setups out there you can purchase. I am super cheap so I went to a metal store and purchased a sheet of aluminum then made my own. Cool air comes from the factory location and is fed into the filter area. I know yours is an N/A but the idea is the same.

Thank you rspi I looked in the gas mileage thread and found it UltraGauge Automotive Information Center and OBDII Scan Tool. That one is alotmore reasonable for me, Ihave been dying to get one sense I drovemy buddies turbo. His turbo had the mpg display on his panel next to the clock, which was awesome.

I ended up making an ait box but need to fix it a little, its a little to tight against the battery cables. I am going to use your picture as a guide line .Iam the same way, the cheaper the better. If I can make it I will and if I cant ill still attempt it.That is why these forums are great, I never need to take my car to the machanic.
