Default Air Conditioning disconnect

Is there a way to stop the compressor from kicking in when I turn on the defroster? My AC isn't working correctly (leaking somewhere) and I would like to use the defroster when the call arises without the compressor cycling all the time. I know I should just fix it, but I need to put money into other things for the next 6 or 7 months.

Are you still using the A/C?

If not just unplug the A/C compressor and leave it unplugged.

I'm in Central NY State and it's the time of year when it will rarely get up over 80° so no, I'm not going to be using it anymore. Besides, it won't hold a charge longer than a few weeks anyway as the evap is fubar. Unplug the compressor? Where exactly can I do that? Ie: on the compressor or somewhere else. I've been told that there was a sensor on one of the lines back near the firewall, what about that?

Yes, there is a harness on the sensor. If it is unplugged, the compressor shouldn't come on. It is on the hard line near the firewall on the passenger side (US).

Agreed that would be the Low pressure switch. But it might make the lights on the dash flash all the time.

The Compressor has a single wire that mounts on the side of the compressor in a white plug. Looking at it it faces the Radiator.
