Auto to 5 speed swap

"Worth" is a matter of opinion. You're not going to get a definitive answer on that. I can tell you that I love my 850t so much more with a 5 speed that I'm also going to do my V70. And having done it now, I'm fairly certain I can do the next one in a weekend. Definitely high on the "worth it" scale to me.

There is nothing like the feeling of driving your car for the first time with a manual swap. Exhilarating.
Its like giving birth. Serious pain to have the baby but after that Mothers forget about what it was like to deliver. Manual swaps are hard and time consuming but after its all done...wow.

OK Thanks this is my first car that has been a auto cause I also have had a 5 speed. So Idk why I said worth cause I know it's worth the time. Where is the best place to find the stuff at? Will the 5 speed fit in the auto sub frame and all? What all will I need for the swap besides the trans and petals and shifter? Does it have a slave cylinder or does it have cables for the trans. My neon didn't have a slave cylinder it had cables from the shifter to the trans.

I don't think too many 850s sold with a manual - but I did do a car-part.com search and found about 4 pages worth of manual transmissions nationally - with two in Jackson, MS. You may want to see if a yard has a whole car to pick up all the factory bits. Volvo 850s did use hydraulic clutches... Better yet, shop for a 1999 or so C70 with the clutch already installed then talk to Boxpin about making a screamer :-) Cool thing about C70 coupes is you can take the supporting brace from a convertible to add stiffness to the frame too.

In the engine compartment you will need the trans, flywheel, clutch, slave, cables, fluid and small parts (throw out bearing, bolts, etc).
In the cab, shifter, pedals, master
Things that need to be done to make it all work, remove firewall plate, update cruise control relay, PNP harness removal, backup lights, starter bypass.
Now, I pulled off the swap in one day by myself in my driveway. But, I had thoroughly researched till I was blue in the face. I knew every obstacle that could happen before I dove into it. I would recommend you do the same, research then research some more. If you decide to do this I will help answer any questions you have.
Your best chance of finding an manual is a 93 850 N/A

Best option, in my opinion, is a donor car. When I did my swap, I found a '93 on Craigslist that had a blown head gasket. I took all the parts I needed, and parted out the car. Actually made a few bucks on the deal.
Also, the one thing I didn't realize at the time...the Sachs clutch kit doesn't come with a release bearing. It kinda sucked to have everything laying around, all ready to get to work, then be stalled while waiting for one little part to come in.
Order a release bearing when you order your clutch kit.
