Default A/C fill port

Earlier this summer I went to have my A/C recharged. They were unable to accomplish this task as the valve inerds had been replaced by someone and they placed the wrong valve inside. I was told this valve is similiar to a bicycle tube valve. Well they tried to get the wrong one out and it is stuck.

They suggested maybe using a easy out or something. Does anyone have a idea on how I can get the guts out of this wrong valve?

I hate to have to replace that section of A/C pipe that contains the fitting, but I may have to. Also, what is the tool called that is used to separate those pipes? How expensive is it? Might have to pull this section of pipe off a junker.

Thanks

Can you post a pic of the valve in the port?

Yes but that is only the cap it unscrews. Then the valve is under it.
Did they remove that cap? If not then they don't know jack about cars!!!

Yes they did take the cap off. The valve inside is what is all messed up. They told me that it screws in, and the one that is there is frozen and won't unscrew. They said youmight use an easyout, but you run the risk of messing up the threads and therefore won't be able to screw in the proper filler value.

Therefore, my next solution is to repleace that section of pipe. But I don't know what the special tool is to remove the fittings. Also, how much is that tool and where I could get one.

What is your thoughts/suggestions on trying to remove the valve insert?

I would try getting the valve core tool first and removing it myself. Spray some rust spray in there first and let it soak some then use pliers on the tool and try to unscrew it.
Also make sure the system is totally empty first.
If you have to replace the pipe this is the tools you will need.
A set like this

Or like this.

Do you have link on the valve core tool? Great suggestions. I am told the system in empty as the current valve doesn't seal.

Thanks. I'll see what I can do. I know they had much trouble. Good Volvo shop. So I am expecting that I will need to either try something else or replace the section of pipe.

What do like as a rust remover?

Hi Tech, I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I've got a somewhat similar problem on my S80. I tried to take the cap off of the high side fitting to take a reading, but the cap won't come off. It just spins. It says 6 N-m on the cap. It feels like it's loosening, then will get tight and then loosen up again. Is there some type of latch on the cap that I need to release to get it to come off? Thanks.

PB Blaster works the best.

Someone stripped out the cap. What you need to do is get a good pair of visegrips and lock them as tight as you possible can on the cap and hope it comes loose. It is a common problem. Sometimes it takes me up to 30 minutes to get it loose.

Thanks! Do you refill through the highside? If so, what special equipment do you use?

Yes you should fill through the highside. It would be best to use an A/C machine.

Well I opened the cap and took another look. The guts of the valve is gone. No way to extract the valve. It appears to have been brass and it has fused itself to the threads. So, it will be off to Sears to get the tools. The Lisle part you suggested says it is for FOrd, GM, etc. but dosn't cover Volvo. Are these in standard on the Volvo?

Yes standard for most cars. The 850 A/C system is a Ford system. The earlier cars 240/740/940/960 was a GM system.
