Default Odometer Stopped Working

Hello,
Just the other day, my odometer/trip odometer quit on me. What can I do and/or what can be bought for this and where, haha.

-Thanks

The gear broke there is a topic post pinned on the top of the 850 section on how to replace them.

I have 3 850's and all of the odometer gears have broken on all of them.My daughteralsohas a Porsche 944 with a VDO Instrument cluster and it broke as well.

I get replacement my gears from www.odometergears.com. Good folks and great service - they will never fail again. I think you can get the same gears for about the same money at IPD.

I live on campus at a University and I don't really have the time or room to do it myself. Is this something that usually can be done at a shop for a reasonable price?

-Thanks

Any shop that has done Volvo work can do it for you - I would guess they would chargearound 2hours of labor plus the gears which will be around $50.00 if you get both of them. The small gear always breaks but the large gears on my three were deteriorating as well and I make it a habit to just change both and be done with it.

If you get it done have them change the lamps while they have the cluster out, it will add nothing in labor and only a few dollars for the lamps. It is also a good time to remove the Service light and throw it away - if you have a '96 or newer you cannot reset it without a tool or specialized software and a special cable for your PC.

Definitely replace the lights while you are in there, it isn't a pain to remove the instrument cluster, but it is time consuming.
