1995 850 Turbo,
The A/C will work fine for about 20 miles or 20 minutes and then starts blowing out hot air. I turn the A/C off and wait about 5 minutes and it will usually cool again for a shorter time period. The A/C blows out cold when it is operating. Ideas?

Bad A/C clutch/compressor.

The clutches go bad. But the compressor is about the same price.

If you are really handy remove the compressor and reshim the Clutch.

I am going to get the freon level checked. Dealer stated it probably is the Compressor clutch but could be low freon. Is there a minimum / maximum pressure that should be in the system? I will let you know how it comes out. New compressor from the Volvo Dealer is about $1,000 installed! Ouch!

Yes ouch.
It Holds 1.63 LBS
The Low side pressure usually stays at 40PSI.

But have the do an A/C service only and see what happens from there.

 

Thanks for the information. I am going to have the A/C Service done first and check it out. If it works, great! If not, it gets repaired!

Turned out to be the Compressor Clutch. The car was not low on freon (I saw the gauge). When the compressor clutch was put on, it works like a champ. No problems. Price: $600.00> Wish I had the ability to work on that item but at least it is now fixed and I can ride comfortably in Houston.
