Car dies when being refueled?
I do not know what is going on with this 1994 850 non turbo. Yesterday it stalled out at a gas station and we were not able to start it. It would start up then die. start up then die. Put force on the gas pedal and it still would stall out. It eventually started and brought us home. I heard it just started doing this whenever it was being refueled. the fuel pressure switch was recently replaced. Could it be the fuel pump, vapor locking, or some kind of relay?
A few people with S70's(pretty much same car) have had bad evap valves and that causes the problems. What would happen is during fueling the vapors would fill the intake system not allowing it to start.
Had that happen on my 96T. Tech suggested the evap valve, and that fixed it. Two mechanics in my town couldn't figure it out. There's not a great way to diagnose it- just get a new valve (pretty cheap) from FCP Groton, and see if that fixes it. Mine is located on the fan shroud near- just follow the lines from the intake to the evap canister, and you'll see the valve.
Good Luck

be sure that when you refuel, the engine is off. do not fill the gas tank while the engine is running.
while the engine is running the increased flow thru all the systems, especially the evap canister can aggravate this problem.
