Car dies when given gas
I have had my 96 850 GLT for a little over a year. I have recently encountered a problem. I got into my car and was a little difficult to start. The car caught and finally started. I then put the car into drive and was rolling fine through the parking lot. Once I gave the car gas it began to hesitate, the rpms dropped, steering wheel began to shake, the transmission/winter mode light began flashing, the abs, and other lights on the dashboard came on. The car then shut off. I then a couple minutes later started the car which was once again difficult. I put it into drive and the car did the same thing once again yet this time I let off the gas and the car began to idle fine again. There is no problem when I dont give the car some gas. I checked all the fluids, which were fine. I left the car over night. The next day the car started which was difficult again(meaning it takes a while to catch), and was able to drive it but still hesitating and rpms dropped at random times. With a little driving the check engine light came on. I made it to a munro muffler. They did a scan and came back and said that i needed a tune up. They stated that it would be 1,000 dollars plus. Not being an expert I called my father who said it was an outrage. Any feedback on what the car needs?? Thanks

RE: Car dies when given gas
What should the tune up include?? My father is good with cars so if it is possible for him to do it the more information I can give him the better. The people at munro wanted to charge 1000 dollars and I did not see it being that much, nor did my father. Have you heard of a problem like this before?

When servicing a Volvo (or any other makes), stick to the OEM parts as much as possible. Trying to save $ off on non-OEM or cheap generic parts means a disaster in modern automobiles.
P.S: Axel, that may have been the rapership.
