Default Checking codes on the OBD unit

Hey so the On board diagnostic unit has an A side and a B side. The manual talks about checking codes in terminal 2 and terminal 6 of side A. I get a reading from terminal 2, but no response from terminal 6. So is this a problem? What do all these terminals do?

They store any error codes that the car finds, makes it much easier to diagnose what is wrong with your car.

A1 stores error codes for the Auto Transmission - if you have an error code here it will flash an "up arrow" on your dashboard.

A2 is for Fuel Injection - This one triggers the "Lambda" light (check engine light or CEL) on the dash.

A3 is for Anti Lock Brakes (triggers the (ABS) light)

A6 is for Ignition (this one doesn't work on mine, may be model dependant)

A7 is for your instrument cluster diagnosis and testing - only works on the VDO cluster, not the Yazaki one.

B1 is for testing Auto Climate Control - if your climate lights flash when you turn the ignition on it will have a code

B2 is for Cruise Control

B5 is for Air Bag System - Triggers the (SRS) light on the dash.

Hmm interesting. It would be nice to know if there was a code I'm not seeing in A6, considering my car won't start. Maybe both ignition and fuel codes are read from A2 in the motronic 4.3...

Anyone have any ideas as to why I'm getting spark in the first two plugs only? Bad coil?

I don't think it would be the coil. Check distributor cap and leads first

So, B5 is SRS system code. I wonder if you can reset a SRS light with it?

Why yes, yes you can. I accidentally set mine off when I was replacing an ignition switch and turned on power with the steering wheel air bag unhooked. It was my first adventure with Volvo's underhood OBD center.

Kiss4aFrog, Did setting off the code prevent the car from starting/turning over? I started a thread on this but thought I would see if this reaches you since I am having a related problem.

Thanks,
Greg

The SRS or air bag light when on tells you the system has a problem and disables the system but NOT the car. The car should start, run and operate just fine with the SRS light. It's like the ABS light. If it's lit the ABS (anti-lock brakes) will not work but the regular brakes still function normally.

I started a thread on this on 12/23/13 "Ignition Wont Start". Any input you might have is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg
