clicking while turning in my 1995 850 non turbo
Hello all!
I have a 1995 850 non turbo. Lately when turning (especially left), I have been hearing clicking. I also noticed that my front tires were shot - very irregular wear patterns. I replaced the front tires because some belting was poking through both. The tire monkey who replaced them said the wheel feels wobbly and suggested a wheel alignment.
My first thought is that this is my lower control arms. But could it also be my CV axel in place of or in addition to that?
Your sage advice is greatly appreciated.

You may have two problems.
If the wheel is wobbly that's dangerous and the vehicle needs to be inspected by someone immediately. The alignment recommendation is a joke except for the guy doing it should catch the problem before he does it.
If one of the tires failed quickly it's likely the wheel bearing is going. It would cause the shoulders of the affected tire to wear out prematurely compared to the other side. Usually the inner sidewall will go faster as the wheel bearings play will allow the wheel to slightly cant out at the bottom due to vehicle weight on it.
But the wobble would be both verticle and horizontal. If it's a bad steering component it would be horizontal play only.
When you say clicking while turning I always think CV joint since that's the sound they do make and how everyone usually describes it. It wouldn't cause any wheel wobble so that's why I'm thinking you might have two problems.
When they get really, really bad and they're clunking even when you're going straight they can get out of alignment and cause a vibration but at your stage it would just be the clicking, not be felt as a vibration.
Do you know how to check for a bad wheel bearing and CV joint ??

easy way to check for play is jack up the wheel, grab the tire at 3 and 9 and try to wiggle it..
then grab it at 12 and 6 and do the same.
if you have play at 3 and 9 then your looking at tie rod ends inner or outer..
if you have play at 12 and 6 you looking at a control arm..
if you dont have a hum or a grinding noise that increases with speed or gets louder with speed then its most likey not the wheel bearing.
Replacing the wheel bearing on these cars is easy you actually replacing the entire hub, nothing needs to be pressed in
