Clicking Noise When Turning
I am noticing a clicking under the car when I turn. I can feel it with my left foot resting on the floor. It doesn't do it all the time, but seems to be getting worse. Any ideas? Everything seems attached and tight.
Have the CV-joint inspected and replaced with a new unit or with a rebuilt driveshaft assembly. Some technicians prefer to do the latter, not because he/she wants to make money but it saves time on repair.
You can visually inspect to see if there is a torn in the CV-joint boot (do this safely). Clicking at turns is a common symptom of failing CV-joint. There are 2 CV-joints at each drive axle; 2 on the right and 2 on the left, and it is usually the outer (right by the wheel) boot & joint that fails.

That's what's wierd, the boots look fine. I guess it could be the CV's considering I am having a vibration issue also, but I hate to put new axles in if I don't know for sure these are bad. I did that once before in a different car, and there was no difference after spending $300 on the new axles, and I am sure Volvo axles would cost even more than that. I did notice that there is a small fluid leak on the drivers side where the axle goes into the differential, but I doubt a bad seal there would cause the problems I am having.
I double checked the axles today, and they seem like they were replaced recently, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with them. Any other ideas on what could be the problem?
yeah this does sound like your c/v axles are going. I got both of mine replaced for $200. Excellent deal. They rebuilt them which in my opinion is well worth it. Otherwise getting all new OEMaxles will be very expensive on top of labor costs.
Hi,
If the axles have been replaced recently, I can only imagine that the new axle was poorly manufactured (too many products have been poorly manufactured lately, which really upsets me[8D]). Have you checked the inboard cv-joints as well? Ibelieve you did, soI canonly think that the problem is in the transaxle, most likely the differential if you hear & feel clicking only at turns (I kind of doubt it, as I have never seen any report on diff failure on 850s but Tech may have). Or, if you can raise the front end of the car and put it on a pair of jackstands, put the shifter in "N" (be sure to set the parking brake fully and chock the rear wheels) and move the steering wheel from side-to-side, and rotate the tyres to see if there is a physical contact. As to the small tranny fluid leak, it is all right as long as proper fluid level is maintained.
If none of the above applies, your best bet is to wait till Tech replies. If it turns out the cv-joint/axle is bad, FCP Groton has it for $75+shipping.

eEuroparts also have new ones for $114.90/109 (R/L).

Doing the axles is fairly easy too. I did it myself and had a bad axle right of the bat. I sounded like a machine gun on my test drive (literally); people were looking at me as I passed like I was out of my mind. My advice here is order from FCPGroton.com, I have never had a problem with their stuff.
