Default Code p0500

My car runs fine until I turn on my lights, then my gauges go crazy and my engine stops. Turn my lights off and restart car and everything is fine again.

Not sure what P0500 stands for. Cannot find it listed under my DTC codes.

Anyway, it sounds like you have a bad short somewhere. Probably in the steering column or somewhere around there.

Oops, sorry po 500, everything I'm pulling up says something about a speed sensor. Could that be the problem, if so where do I start?

What year is your car for starters? If it's a speed sensor then it's probably a 94/95, there's a speed sensor on the back of the transmission, if it's a96/97 the speedometer gets it's signal from the ABS sensor.
