So far I am 2/2 for good starts on a cold engine, I mean, the RPMS get 'really' high, like 1500/1600 rpm, then come right down to a smooth idle... Before it would hit 1200/1300 on a cold start and then either be fine or go into too low/500/600 dangerous territory, where I would give it gas to keep it leveled out... Will post the SECOND it gives me lip... =)

now that you mention it and i read this thread again, i had the same problem with the 97 960...it was sooo frustrating cause the car would NOT start without pumping it gas before turning the key during freezing temperatures. During the day in nonfreezing temps, it worked just fine.

if it did turn on, it would sputter and hang on to 500rpm or stall out. The only option was to repeatedly step on the gas pedal but not leave it depressed until it warmed up...then it was ok. Ran out of options and just got rid of it. never found out why it started doing this.

Systek. That wasn't my issue at all. Always STARTS fine (without giving it gas as you stated), but you had to give it a little gas after the inital start because it would only 'peak' at 1200 and then sweep down into low, low territory, where it would fight it out for a little bit and then either recover eventually, or stall.

Started car @58F this morning, NO signs of problems. I am cautiously optomistic... =)

Bad ECT sensor?

Edit: forget my comment. I didn't see that this thread was already solved by changing the throttle position sensor.
