ETS/CAN fail due to cold
I have a 2000 Volvo S70 SE. Living in Alberta, and the winter season is starting. A few days ago it dipped down to -28C overnight, and in the morning the car had a 'dead' dash. The speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, etc, were not working. The light behind the dash works, but none of the display does. (Though the hand brake and check engine lights do, more on that later.)
Otherwise, the car was working fine. I drove to work, and decided to check on it at lunch time. When I started it at lunch, the dash was still 'dead', and in addition it now had a very odd idle, and the check engine light was on.
After work, I drove to my mechanic's place and he connected it to the ODBII reader and got the following codes:
P0121 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem
P0600 - Communication Link Malfunction
P1608 - ETS Throttle Valve Command/Actual Throttle Valve Position Correlation Error
P1611 - CAN Data Bus ETS Update Signals Absent
P1612 - ETS Loss Of Signal
P1613 - ETS Malfunction
P1621 - PCM Memory Performance
P1651 - Maximum Torque Exceeded Fuel Cut-Off Triggered
(The 'definitions' are what I found online.) I have the mechanic trying to narrow down what the issue could be, but I was wondering if anyone here has any possible suggestions. Based on these errors it sounds like the ETS module, could be the main culprit. I know there was a recall on that a while back, though I'm not certain whether my car had that replaced or not.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
