Default Computer Issue?

Hello!

So about 2 years ago when I bought my sweet burgundy 96 Volvo 850 GLT Wagon, the regular headlights wouldn't work (but the brights did), so I took it to a mechanic to have them fixed. In the end it ended up being "the computer" that was messed up, and so they put one in the car that was from a v70. Sense then my rear windshield wiper and cruse control quit working (not important), but sometime when I first start the car it will not go into drive, when I press the button down to shift it will not budge, and I have to restart the car once or twice until it works like normal. Anyways, I was thinking that maybe it's the computers fault that my car won't go into gear being that it's from a different model, and I'm dreading the day when it will not go into drive at all. Could anyone tell me where/what this computer piece is, and also if that's the main issue going on here? It's an automatic.

THANKS!!!

not sure what computer you are referring to here, more likely they would have replaced a relay or a fuse. Start by checking fuses in the main fuse box to see if any are blown (for the wiper/cruise control). As to the shifter, what happens when you turn the key to position 2 and then try to use the shifter release button to get the shifter to row from low to park. You may simply have a sticky or broken shifter - Check our RobertDIY's vid to see if this gives you any insights. Not uncommon for these cars to need an occasional lube of the shifter button (something like Fluidfilm works unless the button is broken)

It was the headlight relay, thanks for that! Still not sure what's up with the rear wiper, the fuse is fine.

you'd need to check to see if you are getting voltage to the rear wiper motor - those motors do fail from time to time (sometimes the motor is good but the cam/gear to actuate the arm goes bad - you'd need to give it a listen)
