HELP!!

Ok, so I posted earlier about the ABS light issues. They resolved themselves it seems like. But MAYBE I have found the ACTUAL problem.

Two days ago she called me in a panic saying the car smelled like ROTTEN EGGS. I thought it must be a catalytic converter problem. The CEL was not on and the car was running good so I told her to see what happens the next day when she drives it again.

Well, yesterday she calls me again, this time the smell is SO BAD she can't breathe in the car. SO now I am thinking Holy S&&% what could this be??

Well I went over to her house and started the car. While sitting there I could smell a REALLY STRONG rotten egg smell. I checked out back and it did not seem to be coming from the tailpipe. SO I raised the hood and noticed the smell was stongest near the front of the motor. I then noticed that the battery was BOILING OVER? Well SULPHURIC ACID will certainly smell like rotten eggs.

I checked the voltage at the battery with the engine off and got 13.2 Volts. With the engine running I get 15.3 idling and 16 - 17 volts at a fast idle like 2000 rpm.

SO is the voltage regulator bad? This seems awful high voltage? BTW..Battery went dead over night..I think it boiled out so bad it is shot.

Any thoughts of proper voltage and should I replace battery and regulator???

I agree way to much voltage. Worse case normal voltage it 14. Usually around 13.5 or so.

I will not even start it again for any reason before changing the regulator because this will be a great potential for killling some of the bulbs. specially the illuminations inside the car and you know that how much pain it is to replace them.

I agree, bad voltage regulator for sure. But look at the bright side, at least you know that alternator is working fine! Seriously though, make sure you clean EVERYWHERE around the battery area with water and baking soda. I would even consider replacing the battery cables as well. Sulfuric acid is extremely corrosive.
