Cool Coolant Pipe Replacement Nightmare

I had a hairline crack in my coolant pipe and bought original volvo dealer replacemnt part. I see where the one end goes into the engine block and it looks like I have to remove the timing cover & possibly the cylinder head to get at that end. Since the leak is on the driver side end I am thinking of just cutting the replacement pipe in half and using hose / hose clamps as a simple fix. If anyone has replaced their 850 turbo coolant pipe I sure would appreciate their guidance.

Hey I just took mine of my 94 turbo, but my engine is out of the car! It was a bit of a pain but not to bad. One big obstacle for you will be the bolt on a support strap that attaches under the exhaust manifold. If you can get that out then start removing the other clamps and bolts. I was able to wiggle and pull my pipe out of the O-ring in the back of the water pump. I would not do anything until you find a way to get the support hanger loose. As for doing the cut and splice you had what for someone who has done it. I have a photo of it but can not get it to upload.

Got the photo you can see the support strap that would be under the exhaust manifold, and behind the turbo.

OK - Thanks I was able to get the exhaust manifold off and get at that bolt to remove the pipe.

I use a long 10mm socket with an extension that will extend your rachet or wrench close to the heat shield.
