Check the sensor -left hand (driver's) side behind bumper cover -reach from inside the opening in the bumper.

You could also try pulling the fuse for a few minutes to see if that resets it

I don't know what model you have but on my '95 T5 wagon you can see the outside temperature sensor if you look through the centre air dam and drop an imaginary perpendicular line from between the edge of the grill and the RH front light (i.e. facing the vehicle).

The temperature sensor is clipped into a holder and is easy to remove.

But have you checked for any thing that may be fouling or obstructing the sensor head (e.g. little bugs lodged in there, gravel, etc.)?

It maybe worth checking - I found a large blowfly jammed in my temperature sensor even though the cabin read-out was not affected.

the sensor may have come lose -lay on the ground and look up under / behind the driver's side bumper -sensor is black plastic piece. My was coming out of the holder often, it would hang there on its wires.

The Haynes Service and Repair Manual shows a diagram (diag 11.8) of a Volvo sedan with the outside temperature sensor located under the front scuttle together with instructions how to access the sensor.

Reference:- Haynes manual, Chapter 3, page 7

M aybe your vehicle is one of these.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately the diagram in Haynes is for the Climate Control sensors and not the sensor for the ambient temperature. That one should be where previous posts place it.

Bill,

Why am I not surprised.

It's just another black mark against my diminishing confidence in the Haynes manual.
